A highly decorative oak spinning chair by Thomas 'Gnomeman' Whittaker. Whittaker was one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen. He set up his own workshop and adopted the gnome as his signature. He was inspired to use the gnome as, according to legend, a gnome is born each time an acorn germinates, and it will guard the oak tree throughout its life.
 
The chair is one of the best 'Gnomeman' spinning chairs I've seen. Whittaker has carved a mythical fire-breathing dragon onto the back of it, which is quite stunning. It has been adzed to the front and back of the back rest and also to the seat. The signature gnome has also been expertly carved with such detail and is on the back leg. It is in very good condition. There's some faint stains and a couple of small nicks on the seat, other than that, no condition issues. It has had a recent polish and wax which has really brought out the colour of the oak. It's a beautiful chair.
