Welcome to the Yorkshire Mouse online shop

A rare Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson cheese board dating to the 1940s/1950s. These early cheese boards have the signature mouse carved directly onto the board. In the early 1960s the mouse was moved to the handle to give it more strength, so all the later boards have the mouse on the handle, and the early examples have the mouse on the board. The mouse has been particularly well carved with a higher back end, thinner neck, and more prominent ears, typical of the 1940s/50s.

It is in very good condition with just a bit of age related wear commensurate with use. On close inspection a few light knife marks can be seen and the mouse also has what looks to be a small, old nick to one ear, other than that, the condition really is in its favour, as these early boards were used regularly, and it's so hard to find them in mint condition. It has wonderful patina and is a gorgeous dark oak colour with a lovely pattern in the grain.

The length measures 37 cm, the width is 18 cm.
