A really rare, early Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson Pipe Rack. Hand carved from oak. Regarding condition, I've looked at the mouse under a magnifying glass, I can see that both of the ears are chipped, not noticeable to the naked eye as the mouse is quite small but can be seen on very close inspection. Otherwise, there are no other issues, the condition is very good, especially considering the age of the piece. The signature mouse has been carved to the top, right-hand side, in high relief with the tail trailing down one side.
 
Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson was an avid pipe smoker and he and his craftsmen are often seen in old pictures smoking their pipes, so it was only obvious they would produce pipe racks. However, as pipe smoking went out of fashion, they stopped making them, so not many were made. They are quite rare and hardly ever come to the market, when they do, they are always highly sought after. They look great filled with old pipes, but can also be used as a piece for your desk to store your pens, so still very useful today.
