A vintage Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson Armchair. This is an 'out of hours' piece that has been produced by one of Robert Thompson's craftsmen. Thompson was very generous to his staff and gave permission to them to stay on after hours and create pieces for their family, friends, and loved ones. These pieces occasionally come up in Yorkshire auction houses, which is where I purchased this chair. It was sold in a specialist auction with lots of other Mouseman pieces, and attributed to Mouseman, but as far as I'm aware, the workshop didn't ever sell this design, so I'm certain it is an 'out of hours' piece by one of his craftsmen.
 
The condition of the chair is very good with no damage. The seat has been recently re-upholstered with cow hide and new padding. It is a drop-in seat, so it would be really easy to change the covering to whatever the buyer would like. The old signature mouse has been carved to the top left hand side of the back of the seat with the mouse's tail trailing down the side. Difficult to date this piece as it is a one off. I've seen some other Mouseman craftsmen chairs designed like this (Squirrelman, for instance), but not Mouseman. The signature mouse looks early, with the higher back end, and the wear and patination leads me to believe that it is an earlier piece. It's a good, solid, well made chair. Still very useable today.
