Welcome to the Yorkshire Mouse online shop

A hand carved chapel chair by Wilf 'Squirrelman' Hutchinson. Wilf Hutchinson was one of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's craftsmen. He set up his own workshop in 1957 and adopted the squirrel as his signature. He was commissioned to make this chair, along with others for St. Luke at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. The chair backs have a cross shape, and each has a little box where the prayer books were stored. They could easily be used as dining chairs or desk chairs. I have four more of these that are not listed, so if you would like more than one, please contact me.

The chair has some wear consistent with the age, some faint water stains and a bit of white paint to the oak frame (which would easily polish out with fine steel wool, as would the water stains). It is a solid chair, structurally sound, and still very useable today. It has a red faux leather seat. They are in the same condition as I purchased them, I'll leave it up to the buyer whether they want to polish and wax them.
